SM Foundation introduces rainwater harvesting for sustainable impact

Midwife Narcisa Jagmis observes as the system collects rainwater from the gutters.

In line with the SM Green Movement, the SM group, through SM Foundation, recently established a rainwater harvesting system at the Brgy. Irawan Birthing Facility in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. The initiative aims to strengthen their goal of preserving the environment and ensuring the health and wellness of future generations.

To enhance water conservation and management in the facility, the system collects rainwater from the roof and gutter, passing it through vinyl-coated mesh filters to help ensure water quality. With an 800-liter storage capacity, the harvested water serves the facility’s non-potable needs like watering plants, cleaning, and toilet flushing.

Earth Hour 2014 to provide bancas for farmers | March 29, 2014

Typhoon Yolanda smashed the country on November 8, 2013, bearing winds and waves so ferocious that most of Tacloban City was obliterated. The death toll has soared past 6200, with 2000 still missing. Over 100 days since the calamity, hundreds of communities still rely on relief efforts to survive. Worse, Yolanda’s 330kph winds demolished at least 30,000 bancas – the traditional outrigger boats of the Philippines, depriving around 145,000 fisherfolk of their livelihoods.

The Biggest Man-made Hole In the World

This ginormous hole seems like a scene from some movies that tackle "end of the world" subject. But in reality it's a diamond mine located in Mirna, Siberia. It measures 525 m deep and 1.25 km in diameter, making it the biggest man-made hole in the world. The suction from the hole is so powerful that helicopters flying over it can actually crash.

Axe promotes a sexy campaign to save Boracay

Axe, the iconic male fragrance & deodorant brand just launched a new campaign dubbed as “Axe Anarchy Island: Sexy Saves Boracay.” Many have raved about the wonders of this island located in the Visayas region of the Philippines. I was astonished to see Boracay for the very first time in 2007 for a church retreat. Yes, you heard it right -- we spent a church retreat in Boracay and the experience was breathtaking!

Know more about Boracay by reading this post I wrote in April 2011 on my bother blog, The Intersections & Beyond, and why Boracay became the second top beach destination in the world for 2011.

The campaign project of Axe aims to rally support for the preservation and promotion of the island of Boracay. “It’s one of the most beautiful places in the World.  We want to get more young people to care about Boracay by making this a cool and sexy cause to support,” says Axe Brand Manager Gem Laforteza.
