Gawad Kalinga, Convergences, and ACTED Announce first-ever Barangay Walang Iwanan Summit in 2019

Gawad Kalinga, Convergences, and ACTED come together to hold the first-ever Barangay Walang Iwanan Summit 2019 (BWI) happening from January 17 to 20, 2019 featuring in-depth discussions and activities focused on achieving a 3Zero Philippines (Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, and Zero Poverty).

A collaborative effort among leading non-profit organizations Gawad Kalinga, French NGO ACTED, as well as the French discussion platform Convergences, BWI aims to gather stakeholders to discuss and act on urgent social and environmental issues, transforming Filipino communities towards the 3Zero Philippines goal.

“Barangay Walang Iwanan 2019 is a defining chapter in Gawad Kalinga’s history, as we go beyond our existing initiatives to end poverty, “said Fabien Courteille, Philippines’ focal point for triple zero alliance of ACTED/Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation.

“Through this alliance, we look forward to paving the way for more prosperous communities by engaging the youth, key decision makers, and stakeholders of concerned sectors to be a part of this movement.”

3Zero is a global alliance between non-profit organizations towards sustainable development. It calls upon all members of society, from all sectors, to join forces to come up with solutions that will address issues of exclusion, climate change, and poverty.

The summit will span four days from January 17 to 20, with each day dedicated to distinct themes and activities that will allow participants to see firsthand the different communities who need help and have already started implementing and practicing their initiatives towards achieving the 3Zero Philippines goal.

The first day, January 17, will celebrate partnerships through the Convergences Forum to be held at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati. Key discussions and breakout sessions with select speakers will be the highlights of the opening day. It will cover topics focused on three (3) Sustainable Development Goals – no poverty, climate action, and peace, justice, and strong institutions

On January 18, delegates will take simultaneous expedition trips to various locations in provinces north and south of Manila such as Pampanga, Bulacan, and Laguna, where they can discover and learn about the communities and their triple zero initiatives.

As culmination, January 19 and 20 will be spent at the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan. Delegates will engage in several discussions on exclusion, the environment, and poverty, and will also be given the opportunity to devise solutions and form collaborations among their ranks. The summit will conclude with a series of festivities to commit to the spirit of Bayanihan and camaraderie.

BWI is open to the public for a special fee and is projected to include 400 participants from both private and public sectors, the youth, and other non-government organizations present in the Philippines and nearby countries in Asia.

For those interested to be part of BWI, a day pass can be purchased for Php 2,500, while a four-day pass can be purchased for Php 8,900. Rates are inclusive of entry, participation, and meals only. Those interested can register online at http://bit.ly/BWI2019Registration
