Pope Francis will be visiting the Philippines for the first time on January 15-19, 2015. Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. is working closely with the Manila government to provide the necessary protocol and security measures during Pope's visit. They are also coordinating with the Papal Visit committee.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle Tagle noted that the visit of Pope Francis marks the 20th anniversary of the 1995 World Youth Day held in Manila, which was graced by the late pope and now St. John Paul II.
The 1995 event, which was recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest Papal event in history, was also the last time a Pope visited the country.
