Former President of the Philippines and now Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada lights a candle and offers a silent prayer at the tomb of his close friend, actor Fernando Poe, Jr. (August 20, 1939 – December 14, 2004), at the Manila North Cemetery.

Ronald Allan Kelley Poe, a.k.a. Fernando Poe, Jr. or FPJ was a Filipino icon in Philippine cinema. During the latter part of his career, Poe was defeated by incumbent President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the 2004 Philippine Presidential elections, a result roundly believed to have been fraudulent. His long career as an action film star earned him the moniker "King of Philippine Movies" (often shortened to "Da King").

Poe was posthumously declared a National Artist of the Philippines for Film on May 23, 2006 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The award was confirmed by President Benigno Aquino III on July 20, 2012, and was presented to his family on August 16.

Millions are expected to flood cemeteries all over the country as part of the observance of All Saints Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls Day (Nov. 2).
