Earth Day at the CCP on April 17, 2011

The Cultural Center of the Philippines, celebrates Earth Day with the theme “The Earth is Our Home, Love Mother Earth” on April 17, 2011 from 5:00 AM to 6 PM.  Billed Luntiang Lungsod, Luntiang Sining (Green City, Green Arts), CCP Earth Day stresses respect for a green environment and  advocates the reduction of pollution and stalling climate change.  The whole day celebration will feature events and activities geared for kids and their families such as dance and musical performances, a puppet show on environmental awareness, interactive green exhibit, film showings, an eco-friendly market and culinary arts demonstration.

The Marine Drum and Bugle Team welcomes the dawn with a musical reveille followed by the Holy Mass for Mother Earth and the blessing of seedlings.  Artists will lead an Asian martial arts exercises for the public accompanied by indigenous percussion. Exhibits and hands on demonstrations, and an eco-friendly market opens at the CCP grounds.  Television host Janice de Belen, LJC restaurant group and young chefs conduct culinary arts demonstration.  Ventriloquist puppeteer Wanlu perfoms “Wanlu, Wan Earth” at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute. 

Environmental conservation has been an important advocacy of the CCP.  The CCP has sought to use arts in transforming places through the putting up of a 3.5 kilometer bike lane, the setting up of bike racks in the complex, the presentation of art in public spaces, the Culture for Life concept of environmental conservation and the CCP Complex Development Program.  In the annual CCP Earth Day, CCP offers artistic and fun activities that provide children, families and the general public with the opportunity to engage with the various challenges that Mother Earth faces today as well as for reflection on their role in creating a healthier and greener world.

The CCP Earth Day is held in cooperation with Net25, Harbour Square, Winner Foundation, Haribon Foundation, The Firefly Brigade, Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Tourism, Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, GMA 7 Network, International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences Forum Alumni Philippines, Landbank, Development Bank of the Philippines, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
